Best books for the TOEFL iBT (2026 test)
For the TOEFL iBT as it has been since January 2026, the best pair is The Official Guide to the TOEFL iBT Test (8th edition), from ETS, and Barron's TOEFL iBT Premium (19th edition), which has ten full model tests. Many TOEFL books on sale still teach the old test, so check the edition. Add Academic Vocabulary in Use if the academic reading passages slow you down.

Many TOEFL books still on sale teach the test as it was before January 2026, including the 7th edition of the Official Guide (2024), Official TOEFL iBT Tests Volume 1 (5th edition, 2024) and Volume 2 (4th edition, 2024), and the Princeton Review's 18th edition (2024). Kaplan says its 2026 book was updated online for the change. Check the edition before you buy.

The Official Guide or Barron's TOEFL iBT Premium?
The Official Guide is from ETS, which writes the test, so its two full tests are the nearest you will get to the real thing, but two is not many. Barron's has ten model tests and a longer review of each section, written to match the 2026 task types but not by ETS. Learn the format and take the two official tests first, then use Barron's for volume.
