The Lost Wallet on Market Day

A first-person story about losing something important and getting help from strangers in a town market.

Last Saturday I went to the town market to buy some vegetables for my family. The place was crowded, and I had to move slowly between the stalls. While I was paying for tomatoes, I suddenly noticed my wallet was not in my jacket pocket. I checked my bag, looked under the table, and even went back to the fruit stall where I had been earlier. She listened carefully and then pointed towards the information desk at the entrance. When I reached the desk, a young man in a blue jacket asked me to describe my wallet. He explained that a student had found it near the bus stop and brought it there a few minutes earlier. A girl about my age stepped forward, and I recognised her from my morning bus. On the way home I felt lucky, and I promised myself to keep my wallet in a safer place from now on.
