Four people talk about working from home

Working from home: experiences, benefits and challenges

Maya

When my company offered remote work, I accepted immediately because I was tired of commuting. The best part is how much time I’ve gained: I can start earlier, take a proper lunch, and still finish on time. I’m genuinely enthusiastic about the flexibility, especially on days when I need to collect my little brother from school. However, I didn’t expect the silence to feel so strange. After a few weeks I realised I was speaking to almost nobody all day, which was surprisingly exhausting in a different way. I now plan short calls with colleagues just to check in, and it helps. Another issue is that my family thinks I’m ‘available’ because I’m at home, so I’ve had to set clear rules. My recommendation is to create a routine and a workspace, even if it’s only a corner of the kitchen.
