Answer key: TOEFL iBT · Read in Daily Life · Notice about lift maintenance

For the teacher. Each answer comes with the reason it is right.

  1. 1. B: A person who cannot use stairs and needs to change floors

The notice says to call the front desk 'if you require accessibility assistance' to travel between floors. Someone who cannot use the stairs while the main elevator is closed is the person this instruction is meant for.

  2. 2. A: It is located near Room 105.

The notice tells people to use 'the South Entrance elevator (near Room 105)'. Nothing says it will close, that it is reserved, or that it will be inspected.

  3. 3. D: unavailable

'Out of service' means not working or not available for use. The elevator will be unavailable because of maintenance, but the phrase itself does not mean 'under inspection'.
