The people below all want to find something. Read the descriptions of eight options. Decide which option would be the most suitable for each person. For questions 1-5, choose the correct letter (A-H).
parks or outdoor spaces
1. Hannah
Hannah wants a quiet park near the city centre where she can read and relax after work. She can only go on weekday evenings and prefers places that feel safe and well lit. She wants free entry and a short walk from a bus stop.
2. Liam
Liam is looking for a large outdoor space for jogging at the weekend. He needs a place with long paths and easy parking because he drives. He does not want to pay much, but a small fee is fine if the park is clean.
3. Sofia
Sofia wants a family-friendly park to visit on Saturday afternoon with her two young children. She needs a good playground and toilets nearby. A small café is a plus. She prefers somewhere not too far from the centre and not expensive.
4. Noah
Noah would like a peaceful outdoor space for taking photos of nature. He can go early on Sunday mornings and prefers parks with lakes or gardens. He is willing to pay more if it is very beautiful, but it must not be too crowded.
5. Keira
Keira is planning a short picnic with two friends on a weekday lunchtime. She wants a quiet green space with benches and some shade, and it should be easy to reach by bus. She prefers free places near the centre.
A. Maple Family Green
Maple Family Green is ideal for a Saturday afternoon. It’s a short bus ride from the centre and has a modern playground with clean toilets next to it. Entry is free, and there are snack stands at weekends. The park closes at sunset.
B. Stadium Evening Track
The stadium track is open on weekday evenings only and is brightly lit, with staff at the gate. It’s close to a metro station and feels safe. However, you must buy an evening ticket to enter, and it closes at 8.30 pm. It’s mainly for runners, not families.
C. Bus Stop Pocket Park
Perfect for a weekday lunch break, this small park is near the centre and directly on two main bus lines. Entry is free. It’s usually quiet at midday and has several benches under tall trees, so there’s plenty of shade. The gates close at 4 pm, and there are no sports courts or playgrounds.
D. Central Lights Park
Open from 5 pm to 10 pm on weekdays, Central Lights Park is five minutes’ walk from the main square and right next to the tram and bus stops. Entry is free. It’s a calm place with lawns and flower beds, though there are few trees. The paths are well lit and there are security cameras, so it feels safe even after dark.
E. Sunnylake Adventure Park
Sunnylake has a beautiful lake and large gardens, and there are toilets and a playground near the entrance. Entry is free, but it’s popular all weekend and busy from the moment it opens. The park is far from the city centre, buses are not frequent and the small car park fills quickly.
F. Lakeview Gardens
On Sunday mornings, Lakeview Gardens is calm and not crowded, especially before 11 am. You can walk around the lake, visit the flower gardens and watch birds. There is an entrance fee, but it includes a guided garden map. It’s quieter than the big city parks.
G. Riverside Running Trail
This riverside route is best for weekend exercise. It has a long, flat running path that continues for several kilometres, with distance signs. There’s a large car park beside the café, and you only pay a small parking fee. Volunteers keep the trail clean and there are bins every few hundred metres.
H. Hilltop Picnic Woods
Hilltop Picnic Woods is quiet and has lots of shade and benches, great for relaxing with a sandwich. It’s free to enter, and early Sunday mornings are especially peaceful. There’s no water or garden here, just pine trees. The problem is getting there: it’s outside town, with no bus stop nearby, and parking spaces are limited.
